Covid Webinar Post 5. Militarization and the state

Covid Webinar Post 5. Susan Levine will be speaking on militarization, as discussed in our chapter in Viral Loads. Across the world, armed soldiers were deployed to enforce public health laws and rules to contain the #COVID #pandemic. In South Africa the military and private security personnel supported the police, and militarization built on the legacy of repressive structures and technologies used under apartheid. At times the threat of force ensured population acquiescence, but at times the consequences were violent and horrific. Was this necessary?
