Dr. Diego Díaz Córdova at the University of Buenos Aires (Buenos Aires, Argentina), and Dr. Amy Carattini at Montgomery College (Rockville, Maryland) connected their students through a virtual global classroom experience on the topic of culture and sustainability. Students in Dr. Carattini's class shared their collective ethnographic map of the Greater Washington DC Metro Area from the vantage of the cities and communities they call home. They collectively looked at these communities as an urban ecosystem and the many variables that impact the quality of life and sustainability for all who live there. A global classroom connection enabled students to compare these understandings with that of another world city: Buenos Aires. Dr. Díaz Córdova lectured on the topic, giving insight into university life, labor relations, green spaces, food and social class. The session concluded with students engaging in a question/answer session where they could learn from one another, and many expressed interest in continuing the conversation.
