About Me:
I am a medical doctor with nearly 20 years interest in chronic conditions, an interest that started with epidemiological study of leprosy in multi-cultural communities in Nigeria from 1993-2002. This interest has, over the years, evolved into a mixed-methods investigation of the social consequences of leprosy (MPH dissertation 2005), and an ethnographic exploration of cultural, political and economic processes that shape the diverse experiences and responses to leprosy (PhD thesis, 2012). I am currently broadening my interests to include social consequences of other chronic conditions e.g. HIV/AIDS among black and minority ethnic groups living in Leeds. As my previous research explored service user’s experiences, gender and racial differences in stigmatization, I am enthusiastic to collaborate with colleagueswho have interests in gender, race, HIV/AIDS, disability, and in international health and development.
