About Me:
I am currently conducting multi-sited ethnographic research for my PhD at University of Maryland in Uganda, studying the political economy of violence against women policy and practice, using the Domestic Violence Act 2010 as a case study. My research is being conducted through participant-observation within diverse government, UN, civil society, and local community settings. I am currently (mid-2014) residing in a local peri-urban setting (known as a slum but actually socio-economically diverse) getting to know women who live and work locally, hearing their life stories, and particularly how they manage domestic abuse as they try to survive economically. My perspective comes from critical feminist and medical anthropological theories and methodologies. While conducting my research I am taking a leave of absence from my work as a consultant with EnCompass LLC (encompassworld.com) where I have worked for 7 years as a senior research and evaluation advisor.
