About Me:
I have done research and applied work in Central America, Indonesia, and the jungles and highlands of Peru. I have written two ethnographies "Rituals of Respect - the Secret of Survival in the High Peruvian Andes" (1998) and "Growing up in a Culture of Respect - Child Rearing in Highland Peru" (2006) . Both were published by the University of Texas Press. In June 2010 I published a book, entitled "When Condors Call - a Novel of Peru" which is available at www.Amazon.com. I am currently working on a book about the environmental situation in the Andes with focus on melting glaciers and water scarcity. I continue my applied work with the NGO Yachaq Runa which I founded in 1992. We cooperate with high-altitude Andean communities in their struggle to suvive by conducting health campaigns and implementing sustainable projects, such as reforestation, irrigation systems, greenhouses, solar hot water, solar light, health stations, first-aid stations, water projects, schools, etc.
