Associate Director of UPR Sea Grant for Research and Director of the Interdisciplinary Center for Coastal Studies (CIEL: http://amp-pr.org/ciel) at UPR-Mayagüez. Researcher of the Coral Reef Ecosystem Studies Program (CRES), and the Caribbean Coral Reef Institute (CCRI), both at UPRM. Associate researcher at the Centro de Investigación Social Aplicada (CISA), also at UPRM.
Social Sciences applications to conservation biology and fisheries biology: Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK, cognition, landscapes, habitats, trophic webs and species), Marine Protected Areas; Resource Use (GIS applications and in situ measurements, historical perspectives); Socio-economic analysis of resource use; Resource Allocation and Fisheries Management.
