  • Hello Elizabeth,

A book I found very interesting is “ Human Rights & Gender Violence. Translating International Law into Local Justice” by Sally Engle Merry. An account about the tensions embedded when applying global notions on women rights and gender violence prevention into the local where women are articulating their own definitions. I think the concept of “intersectionality” is a good theoretical framework to think about. As an introduction you could check some of the work by Kimberle Crenshaw.  Also check SAGE publications: Gender and Society and Journal of Interpersonal Violence.

On another note look for  Egal Shidad a Somali radio project in the US: http://newroutes.org/projects/egalshidad

    Hope this info is helpful

    regards

  • Hi Maria-

I saw your post a few years back asking for sources and theoretical frameworks for intimate violence and migration. I'm going to be researching Somali refugee women and intimate violence. Do you have any suggestions for relevant work I should be reading? Thanks, Elizabeth
