About Me:
I find myself, still swimming in the annals of lower-division undergraduate courses, falling in love with the myriad aspects of cultural anthropology. Though I am still relatively early in my schooling, I am a mature and seasoned individual with an ever-questing mind and rather constant desire to understand the more abstract philosophical concepts of existence - truth, beauty, love, power, etc.
My current life-arc anthropological passions include the following:
Native North American / First Nations peoples: cultural evolution, shamanism, folklore, cultural transmission, acculturation and oppression, and current states of existence; languages are important to me too - I recently wrote a creative piece that featured puns in eleven Native American languages
Romany culture at large (though I have yet to make in-depth forays into this subject)
Ethnomusicology: specific to the history and evolution of community street bands & the renegade marching band phenomenon [reference HONK! festival]; Balkan brass bands; Indigenous music of the Americas interpreted into modern form; the social effects of avant-garde musicianship (a la John Cage et. al.)
Hospitality: specific to residences/families/singles welcoming guests/outsiders/strangers [with and without reciprocity]; Couchsurfing; Event-driven hospitality
Anthropology of power and secrecy: to include areas that would be loosely termed 'conspiracy theories' by many in the US populous; intelligence communities, secret experiments, etc.
Gift culture and post-capitalism; the evolution of education
Human habitation of space (near and distant)
