About Me:
From a young age, I have been interested in group violence. My interest in abhorrent group behavior such as the Holocaust led me to pursue sociology, anthropology, ethics, and psychology in my undergrad. I chose an anthropology major with a minor in psychology because I felt this combination offered the best type of education to be able to deal with the problems of group violence in a mixed-methods, interdisciplinary, holistic, applied, and systemic way.
Through my academic career, I also became very interested in the problems of the environment and spent much time trying to understand different approaches to the problem and how my training can be applied to working on it.
I found a common link between group violence and the environment in complex sociocultural structures which could be analytically approached by looking at pedagogical structures.
Through my studies of environmental anthropology I discovered Roy Rappaport and Gregory Bateson. I was heavily influenced by their approach to environmental issues. Their use of information theory to explain complex systems such as the intersection between religion and the environment illustrated how my interests of the environment, group violence, and pedagogy can be systematically understood.
Presently, I am working on a GIS certificate and competency in Mandarin. I am working on finding opportunities to do fieldwork abroad, looking specifically at the opportunity to do work on NGO developmental efforts in rural China and looking at how these efforts affect pedagogical structures.
I am aso looking at opportunities to pursue a Master's or PhD.
