P. Scott Phillips, PhD
Scott has many years of research and civic engagement experience focused on the areas of equalities, ethnic collective action and community development. Originally from North Carolina, Scott has worked and studied in Washington, DC, Ukraine, England, and Jordan. His experience includes engaging a wide range of communities around a variety of issues, including Human Rights, Equality, Ethnic Relations, Public Health, Housing, Planning, Transportation, Community Development and Civic Action and Engagement. Scott was awarded his PhD in 2009 from the University of Warwick (Coventry UK) where he was based in the Centre for Research in Ethnic Relations. His thesis was built on his ethnographic research on the factors that impacted on ethnic collective action efforts of two minorities in Jordan.
Scott has worked as a trainer and facilitator in equalities and diversity as well as NGO and CBO capacity development. He has extensive experience working with the Dom of the Middle East and The Irish Traveller and Romani Populations in the UK. Combined with his work in disenfranchisement, he has a strong background in addressing issues of marginalization and deprivation. Much of his work has included partnership and network development, community engagement, advocacy, government affairs and translating research into action.
