Robert Winthrop is Senior Social Scientist at the Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in Washington, DC, where he leads the Socioeconomics Program. In his present position he is responsible for guiding the application of the social sciences to land and resource management decisions from northern Alaska to the Mexican border. From 1982 until 2000 Winthrop managed Cultural Solutions, an Oregon-based consulting practice providing social impact assessment, cultural resource management, and conflict resolution services, primarily in cases involving tribal rights and values.
Rob Winthrop is an adjunct professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Maryland, College Park. Areas of expertise include environmental anthropology, social impact assessment, environmental justice, cultural rights, conflict resolution, and natural resource policy. He has published two books and a number of articles on anthropological theory, resource management, social impact assessment, and human rights.
