  • Hi Hilarie,

I really wish I could go to Seattle but I don't any money for the tickets. I went to college in Seattle and met one of my favorite Anthropology teachers there.

Thank you for your kind words :) I really love what I do and I do hope to teach Anthropology one day. I think all college students should take at least one anthropology class in their college career. Anthropology helps me to understand people's feelings. and when i want to make a difference in the world, I won't forget about the need of the humanities.

  • Hi, Hilarie,

I just saw you posted a comment on my profile 'a while' ago :) Sorry I haven't had the chance to reply. You can just call me Sherman. Ka Ho is the name that the British gave us when they were trying to translate our names from Chinese. But most people in Hong Kong also have an English name. (so most hongkong-ers have 3 names: Chinese name, English name, and the English version of the Chinese name)

I am glad to hear that you are interested in the CouchSurfing Project. I am now working on a documentary and will present it in April 2011 at Juniata College (PA) and I will also consider to upload it to youtube. You can watch some of it here: (Preview - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yudx5rFaWwc )

I saw you are interested in East Africa, HIV/AIDS, and Gender. I am also trying to learn Twi and hope to stay in Ghana for a while since i have developed my interests in Gender, Conflict Studies, and HIV/AIDS, and Africa is such an exciting place to be!

Thanks for stopping by and say hello :)

    Cheers,

    Sherman

  • Dear Dra. Hilarie,
I am a researcher and co-coordinator of a research group on health of the
black and maroon in Brazil(Africa Diápora), which belongs to a public university, and I'm
very interested to be visiting your university, and meet other
researchers and teachers who have studies on black people or
    african-Americans.

I had the opportunity to do internship at Elon University in North
Carolina for a month in 2008, where he had contact with the health
anthropology, and in 2011 we are trying to verify the possibility of
visiting universities and researchers Americans who study the issue of
inequities and inequalities ethnic / racial and the problem of access to
the health of the black population, which is one of the great problems we
    have in Brazil too.
The idea is to try to schedule a visit in May or June 2011, and we have
availability we get up to a week, or maybe a little more, and so we could
be exchanging experience and can show what we have studied in Brazil with
communities black in rural areas. We have much interest yet to receive
them or their students themselves through scientific exchange, and we are
still making agreements, joint research projects, articles and everything
that is academically viable, if it is in their interest.

  • Hello Dr. Kelly,
I'm not sure if there is a way to add captions to photos. You can add a title and "tags" to indicate location and subject matter. I've got to get back on here and update things. Thanks for reminding me! Hope all is well- Sarah
  • Thank you...it was a project I embarked...when I went to study Ayurvedic medicine there....it was a wonderful experience. I remember you visited Kerala, how did you love it?
  • Hi Hillarie, Thanks for the comment. I'm still figuring out how to manage keeping up with these sites. The tea company has been really fun! I do not commute to San Jose--I actually work/live in Monterey full time right now.
  • Oh and another thing, I would just do this over the phone, it shouldn't take more than about 15 to 30 minutes depending on how long you want to spend on answering my questions. Once again, this is GREATLY appriciated!
  • Yes, I do have a deadline, it is the 4th of November. If you could get back with me on my email that would be awesome! Thank you so much for responding!

  • I haven't gone here for a long time, but I hear from the anthro students via facebook and linkedin more often. At least sfaa site is exclusively for anthros. I get notified by email if I have a comment, otherwise I would never know. but again it's just familiarity. Maybe they should discuss if it can be linked to the more popular sites. :)
