About Me:
I'm currently working on my Masters in Cultural Sociology at Eastern Michigan University. I completed a Masters of Social Work degree (Community Organizations and Social Systems) at the University of Michigan and a B.A. in Applied Cultural Anthropology from California State University, Fullerton.
Some of my research interests include multicultural education, social awareness through film, student success programming, tourism impacts on social systems, Pacific Islander social issues, visual anthropology and, ethnography.

Yes, I have an MSW and practiced for several years as a clinical social worker before starting my PhD program in anthropology. It was a career shift for me, as I'd never studied anthropology before, but in some ways it seems like a natural progression. It means, however that I have a dual professional identity, even if I am not a practicing clinician, and I borrow language and concepts (even if I also critique some of those concepts) from social work and psychology. There will always be some resistance to research of an interdisciplinary nature, but I have had a lot of good support from my committee and other faculty in my department, and so it's working out for me. I'm not sure I would have planned things out this way from the beginning; it's a lot of years of education, but I have no regrets. Are you planning a macro or clinical major?
