About Me:
I am a faculty member and Coordinator of the Master of Arts in Applied Anthropology Program in the Department of Anthropology at Humboldt State University (HSU). I also serve as the Director of HSU’s Applied Anthropology and Ethnographic Resesarch Lab and was recently appointed to the Redwoods Community College District, Board of Trustees. At HSU I teach courses accross the cultural and applied anthropology curriculum, on topics including: development, globalization, power & resistance, research methods, and anthropological theory. I have an active research agenda that centers issues of equity within the context of social and organizational change. Past projects include ethnographic research in rural South Africa, where I examined the gendered benefits of an integrated wildlife conservation and community development program. My current scholarship focuses on organizational change towards equity and inclusion in higher education, with two main lines of inquiry, 1) critical interrogation of the productive tension between student activism and institutional diversity work, and 2) identification of factors that influence equitable outcomes for underserved students. In addition, I undertake applied research and community development work – collaborating with a variety of organizations to effect inclusive change that is responsive to the needs of all stakeholders.
