About Me:
I am a socio-cultural anthropologist by traning and a former Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology at Jahangirnagar University in Bangladesh. My research area includes South Asian culture, both in its geographical location and global diaspora, conflicts in the borders of nation states, citizenship, statelessness and refugees, humanitarian aid agencies, Bangladesh studies and gender issues.
Sayema’s current ethnographic research is on the Rohingya refugees living in the camps inside Bangladesh. Based on three months of fieldwork in Cox’s Bazar and Dhaka, which included ethnographic interviews among the policy community of Bangladesh, she examines the humanitarian policy response to the influx of Rohingya in Bangladesh.
