About Me:
I am an architect and an educator. My BA and MA in education both included anthropology coursework. I have read broadly in the social sciences, and now think of my work as falling within Applied Human Ecology. I work on adapting urban land use to restore functioning ecological systems and to support local food production. I am interested in the politics of land tenure, as well. I am also looking at mitigation of climate change through a variety of cultural change interventions involving education, land use and homesteading using "Wise Ways & New Traditions." In Oct 2012 I will co-present a workshop on community-based ecological restoration at EcoSummit 2012. http://www.ecosummit2012.org/workshop-hopkins.html Later in Oct 2012 I will co-present a workshop on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) at the American Evaluation Association. Arlene,
Greetings, I am just to your south in San Pedro, by the port, and teach at a little University there, as well as working on a massive community development project in the Congo. The idea is to help villages redesign their relations with the forest and land in general around maximizing the forest's capabilities as a carbon sink, and getting funding for this to help them do it. I also have looked at fracking in LA. Good to know someone in the neighborhood!
