I was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where I also received my first degree in anthropology, Licenciada en Ciencias Antropológicas. In the US, I received a PhD in Anthropology, an NIMH post-doctoral fellowship, and a PhD Certificate in Social Gerontology. I affiliated professionally with the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, then the City University of New York before joining the University of Maryland. Currently, I am Professor Emerita with the Department of Anthropology, University of Maryland; and Researcher with IDES (Instituto de Desarrollo Económico y Social) in Buenos Aires, Argentina. As a Board member of the SfAA I am fully committed to expanding the networks that link anthropologists and social scientiests world-wide.
